On May 9, the newly minted Pope conducted the Mass in the Sistine Chapel, the place where he was elected as the leader of the Catholic Church yesterday during the cardinals' vote.
The first-ever American Pope said a few words in his native English at the beginning of the sermon before continuing in traditional Italian. Part of the service was also read in Spanish, which is spoken in Latin America.
After the mass, Leo XIV will have lunch with the cardinals, after which they will be able to leave the Vatican and return to their homes around the world.
As a reminder, the new Pope was elected in the Vatican on May 8. It is known that there were only four rounds of voting.
